2006 San Diego Section

Prep Football All-Section Team

An award like no other:
El Cap
itan's Ryan Lindley wins Silver Pigskin

Posted on Dec. 12 2006
El Capitan senior quarterback Ryan Lindley was named this year’s recipient of the coveted Silver Pigskin award, emblematic of the San Diego Section Player of the Year award as presented by KUSI-TV’s award-winning Prep Pigskin Report. Lindley received the award Dec. 5 at the San Diego Hall of Champions Sports Museum on a live television broadcast by KUSI-TV.

Lindley becomes the second consecutive East County football player to win the award. El Cajon Valley graduate Abraham Muheize, who was in attendance at this year’s awards ceremony, earned honors as last year’s Silver Pigskin recipient.

Lindley, who has committed to playing at San Diego State University next year, finished the season with 3,521 passing yards and 35 touchdowns. He helped lead the Vaqueros to an undefeated 10-0-0 regular season campaign and Grossmont North League championship title.

El Capitan became the first team at the Lakeside school to start a season 11-0-0 after winning its Division III quarterfinal-round playoff game against visiting Cathedral Catholic on Nov. 24. The top-seeded Vaqueros’ season, however, ended with a 51-43 loss to eventual division champion St. Augustine on Nov. 30.

Lindley, whose coaches and top receivers were in attendance at the awards ceremony, credited the team’s history-making success this season to a team effort.

"I got to say thanks to my teammates," Lindley said. "I take this as a team award. Hopefully what we did this year, future teams at El Cap can match.'

The Silver Pigskin award is on display at the San Diego Hall of Champions on a year-round basis.

Former winners include Muheize (2005), Hilltop’s Jake Fadden (2004), Marian Catholic’s Patrick Gates (2003), Oceanside’s Jose Perez (2002), Helix’s Reggie Bush (2001), St. Augustine’s Ryan Gonzales (2000) and Patrick Henry’s Patrick Konen (1999).
