College Diving:

Seeley takes the plunge for Griffins, finishes seventh in state dive finals

Posted June 29, 2007
Former Hilltop High School diver Mitch Seeley, who recently completed his second semester at Grossmont College, finished seventh out of 13 qualifiers in the three-meter competition at this year's California Community College diving championship meet. The seventh-place finish earned Seeley Community College All-American honors for springboard diving.

The state finals took place May 3-5 at Ohlone College near Fremont. The top eight finishers earned All-American honors.

“I'm kind of excited. It still hasn't hit me,” said Seeley, who competed for the Griffins men's water polo team in the fall and is just in his second year of competitive diving.

Seeley qualified for the state championship meet by placing fourth in a field of 21 divers at the Southern California Community College springboard diving championships April 20-221 at El Camino College in Torrance.

Grossmont advanced four of its five divers in the Southern California championships to the state finals. The Griffins women's team took first- and second-place individual finishes in the three-meter diving competition.

Grossmont's Ryan Stevens finished eighth in men's three-meter springboard competition at the state championships. He placed 11th in one-meter competition.
