Max Lopez added two goals and Nico Floresta had one goal for the Titans, who received 10 saves from goalie Austin Legg. Luis Sandoval scored two goals for Chula Vista while teammate Bryan Flitcraft had the other. Spartan goalie Jose Virgin had eight blocks.
Montgomery 12, Southwest 10
Roberto Balestreri led the Aztecs with five goals to eliminate the Raiders. Israel Sandoval and Jesse Torrez each scored twice for Montgomery. Southwest’s Ian Femiak scored with 25 seconds remaining in regulation play to narrow the score to 11-10. Fenmiak finished the game with five goals while teammates Manny Mariscal (3 goals) and Alex Reveles (2 goals) helped round out the Raider scoring attack.
Bonita Vista 19, Eastlake 5
The Titans took an early 3-2 lead on goals by Sam Gottlieb, Beto Lopez and James Hiney but could not sustain the momentum as the 17-time league champion Barons reeled off 17 of the game's next 19 goals to earn a berth in Saturday's tournament championship game. Bonita Vista scored 13 consecutive goals to expand on a modest 5-4 lead. The Barons led 15-4 by halftime. Chris Hakes (11 saves) was acrobatic in the BV cage, making his best imitation of a vacuum cleaner in sucking up nearly every Eastlake scoring chance, especially long range shots that seemed to float almost magically into his long arms. Offensively, Dennis Schulz had his moves down and shooter's arm on target while Andrew Hibbard kicked it into gear midway through the second period, scoring six times during Bonita Vista's 13-goal run . Hibbard and Schulz accounted for nine of those 13 Baron goals. Two of the goals by Schulz came on man-up situations. Also contributing goals to the string of 13 unanswered goals were freshman Gabriel Gonzalez, sophomores Chris Sanchez and Niko Marshall and senior Aaron Veenstra. Eastlake goalie Austin Legg had 10 saves. Lopez finished the game with three goals to lead the Titans.
