The top-seeded Lancers stormed back from a 5-3 deficit entering the final period by scoring five consecutive goals to take an 8-5 lead over the defending champion Sundevils. Coulson Lantz led the Carlsbad offensive explosion with three of the goals. Kevin Lorber's four-meter penalty shot with 1:01 left in regulation cut the Mt. Carmel deficit to one goal but the Sundevils were unable to control an ensuing possession and the Lancers ran out the clock in an otherwise memorable contest that saw Mt. Carmel fight back from an early 2-1 deficit.
