Monarchs win Southeastern League title

Monte Vista 6, St. Augustine 3 - 02/10/2003 @ Skate San Diego

Brandon Schaeffer had two goals and two assists and teammates Tony Mauro and Justin Spears both contributed a goal and two assists to lead #3 Monte Vista (8-1-2) past #9 St. Augustine (5-4-2) in a battle of unbeaten teams in Southeastern League play. The league title showdown contest came in the final regular season game for both teams, which will now put their postseason fortunes to test in the 12-team single-elimination conference playoffs that open Feb. 19 in Escondido. Spike Timmons chipped in with one goal and one assist for Monte Vista, which has just forfeit loss credited against it this season.

Defending conference champion Rancho Bernardo (9-0-2) finished with the first seed in the playoffs while Vista is seeded second after ending regular season play with an 8-1-2 record.
