South Bay League swim title on the line

This year’s South Bay League swim title appears on the line when top challenger
Hilltop invades defending league champion Mar Vista’s pool Wednesday, April 24,
for an important 3 p.m. dual meet.
The Lancers, who opened their league schedule on April 2 by sweeping Southwest
(149-10 in the boys meet and 153-21 in the girls meet), feature one of the
area’s marquee swimmers in Nick Davidson and also have the luxury of having
defending Division II diving champion Kyle Kovar in the lineup.
Davidson recorded an automatic qualifying mark in the 100-yard breaststroke in
the meet against Southwest. His other specialty events include the 100 butterfly
and 50 freestyle. Rosi Lopez won the 200 individual medley and 100 freestyle
events in the victory against the Raiders while Julia Relph— another Hilltop
standout — won the 100 butterfly event.
Other event winners for the Lancers (6-1 in conference) included Tori Joseph
(200 freestyle), Jessica Street (50 freestyle) Christy Fox (500 freestyle) and
Rasna Mai (100 breaststroke).
Hilltop’s upcoming prospects also include Tyler Hunsiker and Corey Fix. Hunsiker
won the 200 freestyle event against Southwest while Fix has recorded major time
drops in the 500 event. Fix finished behind teammate Rob Davidson against the
Raiders. Other Lancer winners included Will Crumly (200 IM), Hesam Jelveh (50
freestyle), Joe Olivarria (100 freestyle) and Kovar (100 backstroke).
