Foothillers' Lambrecht wins Division 2 boys dive title

LA JOLLA -- What began as doing tricks in the family pool has led Grossmont High junior Randin Lambrecht to the top of the San Diego Section 2 diving ranks. Lambrecht out-deuled defending champion Kyle Kovar of Hilltop by 13.05 points to win Tuesday’s boys championship meet at La Jolla High School to cap an eventful season.

“My strategy was not to pay any attention to the other divers. I just sat in the corner with my headphones on. When it was my turn to come up, I just did the best I could. I didn’t worry about the other people,” said Lambrecht, who totaled a career-best 355.60 points to Kovar’s runner-up total of 342.55 points.

Lambrecht won this year’s Grossmont North League boys championship title with a then career-best 11-dive score of 327.55 points. He finished third at last year’s CIF finals.

"This is what the whole season basically comes down to. It makes it feel worth it," Lambrecht said.

Valhalla’s Ethan Fabrikant finished fourth in Tuesday’s Division 2 meet with 259.25 points while Norseman teammate Daniel Cancino was eighth with 227.00 points. Mt. Miguel’s Jesse Castillo placed ninth with 226.65 points. In girls competition, Valhalla’s Jennifer Drivick was 10th with 239.55 points behind meet-winner Krysta Chaldekas of Coronado (357.35 points).

The San Diego Section swimming championships are Saturday at Mt. Carmel High School, beginning at 9 a.m. for Division 2 teams and 3 p.m. for Division 1 teams.

Grossmont swept both the boys and girls ends of the Grossmont Conference North League championship meet May 17 while Valhalla swept the South League finals.
