Mustang Relays run like clockwork

The secret to success is being prepared. Who better to know that than Otay Ranch High track and field coach Ian Cumming, who used that formula to perfection in setting up last Saturday’s inaugural Mustang/Phair Company Relays on campus.

The event encompassed 18 schools, including 11 Metro Conference teams. On hand were approximately 40 adults, with an additional 20 to 30 students, who volunteered in various capacities to make the event a success.

“With the help of our other coaches, the volunteers were organized into a very effective group, making the meet a huge success in terms of organization. Coaches from the participating schools were very happy with the facility and meet format,” Cumming said.

The meet showcased the school’s new $15,000 Finishlynx fully-automatic timing system, donated by the Phair Company.

Among the volunteer officials were Jeff and Julie Phair, Cumming proudly noted.

Area teams fared very well, especially Eastlake, which captured team titles in both the boys and girls Blue Division.
The South Bay League and Mesa League prelims are May 13, followed by finals May 15,  at Otay Ranch High.
