Otay Ranch Mustangs post standout marks

While the prestigious Arcadia Invitational lured many of the San Diego Section’s top athletes northward last weekend, the Poway Titan Track Festival served as an appropriate showcase for several South County athletes.

The festival kicked off April 8 at Poway High School with a distance carnival and concluded April 9 with sprints, relays and field events.

Otay Ranch athletes, in particular, posted standout marks in the two-day event.

For the Mustangs, Britney Bennett won the girls 100-meter invitational dash in 12.70 while
Charay Savage turned in the fastest time of 15.54 seconds in the girls 100-meter hurdles.

Bennett also recorded the second-best girls long jump of 15 feet, 18.25 inches and fourth-best girls high jump of 5-2 while Savage also recorded the second-fastest time of 47.22 in the 300 hurdles.

Otay Ranch’s Ranee Woods was second in the boys 300 intermediate hurdles in 42.15 while  Mustang teammate M. McPherson was second in the boys triple jump (41-9).

Sweetwater’s Ernest Pierce was third in the boys long jump (20-8) while Otay Ranch’s Kandy Wilmore was third in the girls invitational 100 dash in 13.32.

Sweetwater’s Ferrari Welch had the fourth fastest time of 15.96 in the boys 110 high hurdles while Marian Catholic’s Janelle Millner (1:01.28) was fifth in the girls 400 dash.

Sweetwater’s Donald Groves was fifth in the boys shot put (46-11.5) and sixth in the boys discus throw (137-0). Otay Ranch’s Ricky Pimentel (4:23.86) was seventh in the boys 1,500-meter run.

In girls relay events, Otay Ranch posted the eighth-fastest time in the 4x100 relay (52.18).

In boys relay events, Sweetwater placed ninth in the 4x400 relay (3:37.21) and 11th in the 4x100 relay (44.90).
